Roles and responsibility.

National Federation of Almos Code of Governance.

The Board has agreed on the following values to influence the behaviours of the Board. They are as follows:

  • Excellent Service - Putting our customers at the heart of what we do
  • Honest and accountable. Demonstrating integrity by doing the right thing in the right way and building trust
  • Ambitious through Partnership. Working with others to achieve more together than we can alone
  • Progressive. To be creative and innovative in striving for excellence in everything we do
  • Empowered - Take responsibility, empower others and commit to learning and sharing knowledge

The Code of Conduct bases itself on seven principles  (Nolan, 1995) which provide the framework for good governance:

  1. Selflessness. Board members should act in the best interests of Cornwall Housing. They must make decisions that support the strategic plans, aims and objectives
  2. Integrity. Board members should not act or take decisions to gain financial or other material benefits, for themselves, or family and friends. They must declare and resolve any interests and relationships.
  3. Objectivity. Board members should be objective in all matters on their own merits. You must base your decisions on the information and advice available and reach your own decision.
  4. Accountability. Board members should be accountable to the residents and staff of Cornwall Housing for their decisions and actions. They must submit themselves to the scrutiny necessary to ensure this.
  5. Openness. Board members must be transparent in their actions. And they must declare and record all relevant personal and business interests.
  6. Honesty. Board members must ensure that they always act in the best interests of the organisation. All activities are transparent and accountable.
  7. Leadership – Board members should exhibit these principles in their own behaviour. Members should promote and support the principles and be willing to challenge poor behaviour.
